We are big fans of Dear Zoo in our house, so we took an opportunity this week to create a Dear Zoo Sensory Basket. My little one likes making the animal noises and lifting all of the flaps in the book to reveal the animals, it is such a popular book with her. We have been talking a lot about animals with her over the past few weeks so a natural transition was to create a sensory basket of all the animals in the book.
We picked out animals of different textures and sizes so she could work on discrimination and her hand eye co-ordination. We had giraffes, elephants, frogs, our plastic oball lions and some fabric ones too and our cute little puppy for the end of the book. She is getting really good at recognising the different animals and has started pulling out the animals as we are working our way through the book. A sensory basket is a really great learning tool, lots of fun and amazing for their communication skills.
Pull out some favourite toys and chat through your favourite book with you little one – they will love it!
